Virginia "Karen" Walker, 73, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 in Modesto, CA, surrounded by her loved ones. Karen was born June 15, 1941 in Townsend, Tennessee. As a child, she moved to Florida where she grew up enjoying various community and school activities. Karen was very active in her church and graduated from Leesburg High School, class of 1959. Karen completed a Bachelor's degree from Florida State University in 1968 and the following year began her career as a teacher at Sabal Elementary School in Melbourne, Florida. Educating children was Karen's passion. for 35 years, she cherished the spirit and hope of young people in her classroom at Sabal. After retiring from teaching, Karen moved to Modesto, CA to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Karen is survived by her daughters, Danielle Hinkle (husband Scott) and Carrie Albert (wife Julie) of Modesto; and siblings Elizabeth Rohrer of Orlando, Florida, Joseph Walker (wife Ouida) of Jacksonville, Florida, and James Walker (wife Terri) of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Karen is also survived by her grandchildren Hailey, Elena, Evan, and Nicholas. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Miriam Walker.
