Richard was born in 1941, Oswego, New York, to Leon and Betty Colling. The Colling family moved to Leesburg, Florida in 1955. He graduated from Leesburg High School in 1959 and married his high school sweetheart, Judy Schaller, in 1962. After more that four years of service in the United States Air Force, they moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where their children were born. They moved to Clearwater, Florida, to raise their family and later moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he retired from Boston Whaler in 2006. They designed and built their dream home in the North Georgia mountains near Ellijay, Georgia. Richard loved woodworking, including cabinet making and various arts and crafts.

He is survived by his wife Judy, son Todd, daughter Carrie Elizabeth, daughter-in-law Melodie, son-in-law Brian, grandsons Preston, Schuyler, and Seth, brother Jack, and sister-in-law Nancy Jones.

The family is requesting, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Siskin Children's Institute in Chattanooga, TN, (1101 Carter Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402, 423-648-1700) or the charity of your choice.

"Siskin holds a special place in our hearts. We are so grateful for the education and support our youngest grandson, who has autism, has received .... Richard was an organ donor and we were thrilled to receive a call that his eyes have been donated to someone in need of a transplant. It gives us so much comfort to know that he was able to help someone else in need." (From the family.)
