Joan was the daughter of Kenneth and Florence Axford. She married Salvador "Sammy" Guerra. She was a graduate of Leesburg High School, Leesburg, Florida.
Joan Kay Guerra, 69, of Pikeville, TN, formerly of Tampa, FL, passed away at a Chattanooga area facility on Saturday, August 21, 2010. Joan was a devout Christian who studied her Bible everyday. She was a member of the Pikeville United Methodist Church. Joan retired from the city of Tampa as a purchasing agent after 26 years of service. She has resided in Pikeville for the last several years. She absolutely adored this place, her family said. Prior to her passing, she had told her husband that "She didn't want to be taken back to Florida. It was too hot down there." It seems she had definitely made a home for her and Sammy here in Pikeville. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Florence Axford. Joan is survived and will sorely be missed by her husband, Salvador "Sammy" Guerra; sons, Rocky (Cathy) Guerra, Tampa, FL; Sammy Keith Guerra, Waynesville, NC; and James Nathan Guerra, Tampa, FL; brothers, Dean Axford, Bucyrus, KS; John Axford, Houston, TX; sister, Betty Tomlinson; granddaughters, Amiee and Tiffany; great-granddaughters, Erin and Aya; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. A Celebration of Joan's life will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 6 p.m. at the Pikeville United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregory Smart officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 4 p.m. until service time.
