Forster was one of St. Louis' most successful German-American citizens of his time. He was born & raised in Bavaria & came to the United States in 1846. After settling in St. Louis, he became identified with the brewing interests of the city. He began in a small way, but his enterprise developed steadily & rapidly under his management & within a few years he became recognized as one of the promoters of an industry which was contributing very largely to the expansion of the commerce in St. Louis. In 1876, along with his son C. August Forster, he founded the Hyde Park Brewery. In later years developed an interest in real estate operations & became the president of the M. Forster Real Estate Company.
