Mary was the adopted daughter of Matilda Rogers and William Lee Rogers of Americus, Georgia. She was born in Far Rockaway, New York. She and her step-mother Matilda migrated to Los Angeles California in 1913 where she finished High School. She married Stanley Iowa, which her mother had annulled because she was not yet of age. She met and married Arthur Walton in 1929 which lasted 30 years until his death in 1959. She was a devoted wife and mother, she never remarried. They raised a family of 4 boys and one girl.

During WWII in the 1940's they both worked for The U. S. Government At Consolidated & Western Pipe and Steel in San Pedro, California. She had lived in Los Angeles for 89 years and was the matriarch of the communities she lived in and was respected by all who Knew her. She was a kind-hearted, compassionate, humble and chartialble person. She loved sewing, chocheting and tailoring. She was an accomplished seamstress & created items for her home and her neighbors.

She is missed by all who knew her, many friends, family, cousins, grand children and great-grandchildren. Her charity to others remains her greatest legacy. She died two months before her 99th birthday.
