For decades, Binford was one of Indianapolis' most influential men, serving as a founder and leader of myriad business, sports and civic institutions. He was cofounder of the Urban League of Indianapolis, chief steward of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race and the former head of Indiana National Bank.
