Musician. Guitarist, Bassist and co-songwriter with Iggy Pop for the influential punk-rock band, The Stooges. Older brother of The Stooges drummer Scott Asheton. Born Ronald Franklin Asheton in Washington, D.C. and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he played guitar on the Stooges' first two albums, and later appeared as bassist for their third album, Raw Power (1973). Dave Alexander was the original bassist of The Stooges when Ron replaced him on bass in 1972. He reappeared years later when the Stooges re-formed. Apart from The Stooges, he also played in the bands The New Order (not the influential UK new wave-dance pop band of the same name), Destroy All Monsters, New Race, and more recently with Mike Watt (of Minutemen/Firehose), J Mascis (of Dinosaur Jr.), Thurston Moore (of Sonic Youth) and Mark Arm (of Green River/Mudhoney) among others (as The Wylde Ratttz), on the soundtrack for the Todd Haynes film Velvet Goldmine (1998). He also acted, appearing in films such as Mosquito (1995), as well as in two other films, Frostbiter: Wrath of the Wendigo (1995) and Legion of the Night (1995). In 2010, Ron Asheton was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Stooges. He is ranked as number 29 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
