YAKIMA - Aileen Barngrover, 95, Yakima, died Monday, October 26, 2009 at Willow Springs Care Center in Yakima.

She was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado on December 27, 1913 to Henry David Wine and Jesse (Nevinger) Wine. She graduated from high school in Rocky Ford and later graduated from Central Washington College where she obtained her teaching certificate.

Her teaching career began in Roxbury, Kansas as a grade school teacher then later moved to Yakima where she was an elementary teacher with the Yakima School District for more than twenty years.

Aileen was awarded a certificate of membership to the "Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America".

She was an outstanding tennis player and had won the women's singles tennis championship and the women's doubles for a Southwest Colorado tournament.

She was a member of Bel Canto Choral Society and Women's octette in that society.

She served as secretary for the Alpha Delta Cappa Teacher's Honor Society. Aileen was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the choir and on the Evangelism team.

She was a member of the Crusaders Women's Association and Bible studies home group charter member.

Aileen traveled extensively with her husband, Don around the United States and overseas, and was on a month-long trip "In the Footsteps of Paul", and was able to use material and slides with brand new social studies books her last year of school teaching.

She is survived by her son, Rick Barngrover and his wife, Linda of Yakima; her daughter, Sherry Krebs of Wenatchee, WA; four grandchildren, Carl Krebs, Camille Krebs, Sarah Smith and Elizabeth Barngrover and three great grandchildren.

Viewing will be held from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. Concluding services and burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
