Christian was born in Pennsylvania and eventually moved to Tippacanoe. He owned a brewery that, per the history of breweries in Indiana, was struck by lightning in 1851. He also built a house that is on the "Tour de Lafayette" walking tour of houses pictured at right. He married Nancy and they had four boys, John, Henry, George and Samuel.
