Elijah married Polly Wiley Febuary 18, 1805 in that part of southwest Virginia which is now Monroe County.Fairly soon afterward Elijah and Polly traveled the wilderness trail through Cumberland Gap, into Kentucky. According to the 1850 Census of Whitley County, Kentucky their frist child was William born in Kentucky, Elijah acquired fifty acres of land on the Clearfork of the Cumberland River December 12, 1816 and another fifty acres in 1817 on the Clearfork in Knox County, Kentucky.

Unknown were grave is at this time.
