Social Reformer. A successful businessman, he was a leader of voter registration drives for African Americans in the American South during the 1960s. He served as president of the Forrest County, Mississippi chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. In the early morning hours of January 10, 1966, his home was the target of a firebomb by the white supremacist organization the Ku Klux Klan. His family was able to escape but he died later that day from his injuries. In August of 1998, Samuel H. Bowers, former Imperial Wizard of the KKK, was convicted of Dahmer's murder.
