Civil War Union Army Soldier. He enlisted at age 19 as a Private with Company K of the 49th Pennsylvania Volunteers Infantry on August 18, 1861, and transferred to Company B on January 1, 1863. He was killed in action during the Spotsylvania Court House Campaign on May 13, 1864. Private Blatt was buried on Saturday, May 14, 1864, thus becoming the first battle casualty interred at Arlington. His stone lists his name as "W. B. Blatt".
