She was always ready to help her friends and she will forever be missed.∼According to a tabulation of Arizona domestic violence related deaths for 2004, Marana High School sophomore Katie Sabin committed suicide with her father's handgun. She left diaries that documented near continuous sexual abuse and rape since age 7 or 8. She had become despondent and indicated she would commit suicide to a friend she spoke with the afternoon of her death. Her father Ricky L. Sabin was charged with 9 felony counts including continual sexual abuse of a child. He was convicted and will not be released from Arizona State Prison until 2040. Her mother, Denise, was charged with 3 felony counts and knew about the abuse but did nothing to stop it.
