SUMMERHILL - Edward Gillette, 98, a former resident of Route 90, died Wednesday at Groton Residential Care Facility.
A native of Summerhill, Mr. Gillette lived there 92 years. He operated a dairy farm in Summerhill and was a former Summerhill justice of the peace.
Mr. Gillette was a member of Summerhill Baptist Church and a former member of the Cayuga County Farm Burreau.
Surviving are his wife of 76 years, the former Hila Smith; two sons, Joseph of Dayton, Ohio, and Gordon of Cortland; two daughters, Dorothy Owens of Cortland and Gertrude Bacheller of Preble; 29 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Cortland, the Rev. George Gutchess officiating. Burial will be in West Homer Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 9 Lincoln Ave.
