GROTON – Services for Hila A. Gillette, 98, formerly of 13 Leon Ave., Cortland, who died Thursday at Groton Residential Care Facility, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home. Burial will be in West Homer Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 9 Lincoln Ave.
A native of Little York, Mrs. Gillette was a life resident of the Cortland area. Her husband, Edward, died in 1988.
Mrs. Gillette was a member of the Summer Hill Baptist Church and its Sunshine Class.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph of Dayton, Ohio, and Gordon of Moravia; two daughters, Dorothy Owen of Cortland and Gertrude Bacheller of Preble; 29 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Contributions may be made to the memorial fund of the Summer Hill Baptist Church.

Truman & Etta Bingham Smith were Hila's adoptive parents.

Hila's birth parents were Mary Bouck and Martin Long. Martin Long died Oct. 3, 1890, the month before Hila was born. Mary, not feeling she could care for their older daughter, Anna , and the new baby, put the baby up for adoption.

Hila and Edward were married April 9, 1912.
