A native of Cortland, Mr. Gillette also lived 20 years in Newark, N.J., before returning to Cortland in 1993. He retired in 1982 as an engineer with the Newark State School.
An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, Mr. Gillette was a member of Waterloo Post, VFW, and the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are his wife, the former Esther Pierce; a daughter, Gloria Higgins of Geneva; two sisters, Bernice Mansour of Binghamton and Beatrice Whatman of Maine, N.Y.; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., the Rev. Fred Walker officiating. Spring burial will be in West Homer Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
