“Timothy Carpenter was born in Attleboro, Mass., 2 Mar. 1773, the son of Cyril Carpenter and Lucy Lane. He was a youthful convert to the Methodist faith and "early became an itinerant Methodist preacher." This demanding vocation would necessitate frequent moves for his family and provided a meager salary. In years to come, after settling in Tennessee, and perhaps earlier, Timothy supplemented his income as a miller.”
