Paul Shannon McFadden, 89, of Blairsville (Blacklick Township), passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. A son of William R. and Grace (Farley) McFadden, he was born July 21, 1921, in Munderf. Mr. McFadden was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church since 1956 and served as superintendent of Sunday school, chairman of the administrative board and trustee of the church. He was a member of the Blairsville Grange No. 2012, Community Card Club and a former member of the Blairsville High School Authority during the 1960s. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was one of the original employees at Blairsville Westinghouse, founded McFadden Machine and Manufacturing, and purchased Sydney Machine Co. in Australia. He retired after 25 years and went to work as personnel manager of Blairsville Machine. Surviving are his wife, Goldie R. (Gamble) McFadden, whom he married Nov. 25, 1944; three daughters: Barbara Michna and her husband, Roger, of Pleasant Hills; Judith Ann Swasy and her husband, Charles, of Blairsville, and Dr. Debra R. Dunlap and her husband, David, of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren: Mark Michna, Monica Michna and Brad Swasy; a great-grandchild, Korey Michna; and a brother, Thomas Phillip McFadden and his wife, Virginia, of Ridgway. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Shoemaker Funeral Home Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Hopewell United Methodist Church, Blacklick Township, with the Rev. Brett M. Dinger officiating. Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville. Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.
