MORAVIA – Dorothy B. Thornton, 81, of Grove Street died Monday at SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse after a brief illness.
Mrs. Thornton was born in McGraw, and lived in Moravia since 1941. She was a honorary Church Mother and Sunday School Nursery leader for 46 years.
Mrs. Thornton was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Locke and Moravia.
Her husband, Seth, died in 1973.
Surviving are a son, Frank of Locke; two daughters, Jessie Distin of Moravia and Alice Sweeting of Richlands, N.C.; five sisters, Alice Thornton of Scott, Maude Kurtnacker of Baldwinsville, Mary Carr of Plainville, Agnes Hollenbeck of Little York and Bertha Brazo of Marathon; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are at 4 p.m. Thursday at Christ United Methodist Church, Moravia, the Rev. Jerald Lipsius officiating. Spring burial will be in Bird Cemetery, Locke.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 pm. Thursday at the church.
Contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church of Locke and Moravia.
Wade Funeral Home, Moravia, has charge of arrangements.
