Civil War Union Army Officer. Served during the Civil War as Captain and commander of Company F, 64th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was mortally wounded in the leg and back while leading an attack on the Confederates in the Rose Woods south of the Wheatfield at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863. Today a marker is at the the spot where he fell, marking the furthest advance of his regiment.
