Mrs. Coffman of M-F Area Dies; Native of Weston
Mrs. Floyd (Margaret Shields) Coffman of Route 2, Milton-Freewater died at her residence Thursday afternoon, after a six-week illness. (February 11, 1954)

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Shields, pioneer settlers, Mrs. Coffman was born in Weston in 1893. She lived her entire life in the Weston-Milton district.

Survivors are her husband, at home: three daughters, Mrs. R. C. (Margaret) Lieuallen of Athena, Mrs. Neil (Catherine) Swanson and Mrs. James (Norma) Coe of Milton-Freewater; four sons, Elgin Coffman of Athena, Robert L. Coffman of Pasadena, Calif., Thomas Coffman of Myrtle Point, Ore., and Joseph C. Coffman of Forest Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Stillman Dempsey of Milton-Freewater and Fern Byerley of Walla Walla, and two brothers, Frank Shields of Yakima and George Shields of Milton-Freewater. Sixteen grandchildren also survive, as do numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Coffman was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church, of Milton-Freewater.

Gray granite marker is among her parents, Samuel and Carrie Shields, husband Floyd Tracy Coffman, sister Eva A. Shields, sister Winnie Shields Dempsey, and brother-in-law Stillman Dempsey, and sister Mary Fern Shields Byerley and brother-in-law Burl R. Byerley. She is my maternal great-grandmother.
