Evelyn Aichele, 79, Bismarck, died April 6, 2010, at Medcenter One Mandan Living Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Art Scanson officiating. Burial will be in Driscoll City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Evelyn Louise McNeil was born March 16, 1931, at Beach, to J. Ralph and Betty Jett McNeil. She obtained her grade school education at Carrington, and graduated from Jamestown High School. She pursued her higher education at Taylor University, Upland, Ind., graduating with a bachelor of science degree. She also obtained her registered nurse degree from Bismarck Hospital, now Medcenter One College of Nursing.

On May 5, 1957, she married C. Bernell "Ike" Aichele at the Methodist Church in Valley City. At the time, she was employed as a nursing instructor at the Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing. Later, she happily joined her husband, Ike, in a few moves around the country. On Sept. 27, 1958, a son David was born, followed by a daughter Denise on March 26, 1960. Both were born in Chicagoland. She followed her profession part-time while tending the children during their grade school education. She enjoyed working in geriatrics and worked the nursing floor or as director of nursing in various nursing homes in North Dakota, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

After returning to North Dakota, she was employed by the North Dakota Dept. of Health and travelled the state surveying nursing homes. She retired in 1994 after serving 10 years. She was active as a volunteer at Medcenter One and briefly for the American Cancer Society. She was active in her church, McCabe United Methodist serving as an officer in various women's groups, study groups, and signing in the chancel choir. She was loved by most everyone who became her acquaintance in her lifetime. She enjoyed many interests but her favorite past-time was reading.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Ike, Bismarck; her son, David, Golden, Colo.; her daughter, Denise (Michael) Hamilton, Yarmouth, Maine; her grandson, Lucas, Yarmouth; her brother, Dr. Maurice (Carmen) McNeil, Glencoe, Minn.; several cousins around the country including, Carol Guymer, Mandan; her nieces and nephews; her brothers and sisters-in-law; and her mother-in-law, Tillie Aichele, Driscoll.

Memorials may be given to Medcenter One Foundation College of Nursing, Bismarck Cancer Center Foundation or the McCabe United Methodist Building Fund.

We are most grateful to all the persons who became involved in her care these recent months at Medcenter One, Bismarck Cancer Center, Medcenter One Mandan Living Center and the host of friends and loved ones who cared and offered prayers for her comfort.
