Capt Amos, was born in Oregon. Before being called to service Howard Amos attended Oregon State College he was very active in the OAC community; he was a member of the AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers), and was a part of the hell divers. He was also one of the Olympians, was on the rook track team, and was a Co-op manager. He graduated in 1940 with a Bachelors in Chemical Engineering. He served with the 361 Field Artillery Battalion, 96 Infantry Division, and was taken prisoner to the Japanese during the fall of Bataan, he survived the Bataan Death March only to be killed six weeks later in the POW Camp #1 Cabanatuan 1-2-3 located in the Nueva Province Luzon Philippines. He was survived by his mother, step father and two brothers.
