2Lt John T. Blanks Jr was a pilot of a P-40 fighter and belonged to the 60th Fighter Squadron, 33rd Fighter Group. He was killed in action over Sicily on 14 August 1943. He was buried in the temporary American GELA Cemetery in Sicily. Lt Blanks was buried in plot/grave G-84-1004. Date of burial was 20 August 1943. After the war his remains were repatriated and buried in the Ellis Creek Cemetery in Halifax County, Virginia.
