Services for Mary Edith Cowling, 88, Gainesville, are 2
p.m. Saturday at Commerce Street Church of Christ, Ronnie Quaid officiating.
Burial follows at Era Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Clement-
Keel Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. today in Gainesville.

She died April 30, 2003, at a nursing facility. She was born June 21, 1914, at
Era to Joseph Edward and Daisy Waggoner Gregory.

She and Herman Davis Cowling were married Feb. 8, 1935, at Era. He died in
1983.

Mrs. Cowling was a member of the Era Church of Christ and Commerce Street
Church of Christ. She taught at the Gainesville State School for Girls for 20
years and was a member of the Retired Teachers' Association. She was a Sunday
School teacher for 50 years, teaching preschool children. She was a volunteer
for Meals on Wheels and a member of the Pollard Cemetery Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herman Cowling, her
brothers Keith, Lowell and Richard Gregory, and her sister, Bonnie Cheaney.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ben Edward Cowling and wife,
Gretchen, Roca, Neb., Davis Cowling and wife, Rita, Valley View; her daughters
and son-in-law, Patricia Guinn and husband, Bill, Ada, Okla., and Sharon
Lesikar, Gainesville; her sister, Leta Thurman, Dallas; nine grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Home Hospice of Denton.
