Marvin was the son of Hans Prinds, Sr., who owned the Prinds Dairy at 79th and Nall, in rural Johnson County, Kansas. Marvin had 2 brothers, Hans Prinds, Jr., who passed in 2004, and Harry Prinds, who passed 7 years ago. Marvin's wife lives in Grandview, Missouri and had a daughter who he never saw. His wife had the baby after he went to war. The other 2 sons were needed to help with the dairy and did not get drafted. The dairy sold in 1954. All three boys attended Shawnee Mission North High School when it was known as Shawnee Mission Rural.

He was wounded in action on January 17, 1945, during the attack on Ondenval, Belgium, in World War II, at the Battle of the Bulge. He died of his wounds the next day, January 18. His regiment fought under the most severe climatic conditions. It spearheaded a drive that broke the determined enemy resistance in the vital Ondenval-Iveldingen Pass to clear the way for armored thrusts into St. Vith, Belgium. Sleet, rain and bitter cold froze the men's clothing to their bodies as they struggled through waist-deep snow over rough terrain.

"First Lieutenant (Infantry) Marvin H. Prinds (ASN: 0-1291002), United States Army, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 17 January 1945. First Lieutenant Prinds' intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 2d Infantry Division, and the United States Army."

First Army General Orders No. 53 dated April 3, 1945.
