Bette Armstrong was born in St. Joseph, Missouri and was a long-time resident of Overland Park, Kansas. She had a life-long love of poetry and expressed her creativity by writing her own poetry over several decades; she enjoyed seeing some of her poems published in different venues, including several poetry anthologies in the State of Kansas. Bette loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Ireland, Israel, Tieze in France, and Italy. Tuscany was her favorite destination among all of these. Bette was a spirit-filled person who always sought personal spiritual growth; she was known to countless people as a true prayer warrior and was admired and loved by all. She raised her four children to be strong, loving, caring, and responsible individuals, just as she was. She was a woman of deep Christian faith and a devoted member of Christ Church Anglican. Her strong belief in the power of prayer led her to found Receive Ministries in 1987 that was dedicated to intercessory prayer and furthering individual faith in Jesus Christ. She faithfully and joyfully led and nurtured Receive until late 2009, when she turned over organizational responsibilities to fellow Christians also devoted to intercessor prayer. She dearly loved her biological and her church families and she will be greatly missed. Bette is survived by her brother, Claude C. McDonald Jr., and his wife, Marian; her children, Scott Armstrong and his wife, Barbara, Leslie Klausen and her husband, Mark, Bruce Armstrong, Ann Isom-Krohne and her husband, Steve. She had nine grandchildren, Chris Larson, Melissa Larson-Reese, Brad Armstrong, Megan Isom-Smith, Amy Larson, Ryan Armstrong, Jason Krohne, Brock Krohne, Damon Krohne, and five great grandchildren, Carmen Larson, Indy, Dayton & Brystol Krohne, and Cooper Krohne.
The family wishes to thank many individuals, care-givers at Shawnee Heartland, Village Shalom, and KC Hospice for their loving care and support.
Her memorial Service was held at Christ Church Anglican, 5500 West 91st Street, Overland Park, Kansas on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 am. Reception immediately followed in the church parish hall. Internment of her ashes was in the Christ Church Disciples Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Receive Ministries or Kansas City Hospice, 10100 W. 87th Street, Suite 100, Overland Park, KS 66212.
