Lifelong resident of Hanford, Earl Charles Jr., 53, went home to be with his Lord. He was the son of Clara and Earl Charles Sr. Earl graduated from Hanford High in 1972. He was a star member of the Track and Field Team and won many medals for his performance; participating in the West Coast Track Meet in Fresno.

Earl married Gloria Jean Brooks in Reno, Nev., on April 1, 1976 and they have made their home in Hanford and Lemoore for 31 years. He was a faithful member of the Second Baptist Church of Hanford for many years. Moore Business Forms employed him for over 15 years as a shipping and receiving clerk.

Earl enjoyed fishing, gardening and cleaning his car. He especially enjoyed times spent with his family and friends, having family barbecues and also barbecuing for many community functions. He was also well known for his famous barbecue sauce. Earl had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to share it with everyone.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Charles of Hanford; children, Kenwin Charles and wife Desiree of Hanford, Earl Charles III of Hanford, Michael Charles of Modesto, Latasha Charles of Bakersfield, Julise Charles of Fresno, Ian Smith of Lemoore and Rene Bustamonte of Paso Robles; a brother, Nathan Charles and wife Crystal Faye of Hanford; a loving sister, Joann Duckett of Hanford; play sister Linda Riddle of Hanford; very special nieces, Annette Harper-Perryman and Sherrie Moon of Hanford; nieces and nephews, Elisha Evans, Setphon Charles and Gaylan Charles all of Hanford; eight grandchildren; extended family and many friends.

Visitation took place at People's Funeral Chapel in Hanford. Services were held at the Second Baptist Church, with burial in the Hanford Cemetery.
