Grover Robert Taylor, was born April 30, 1941, in Allen Junction, Wyoming County, WV, ninth child in family of eleven children, seven sons and four daughters. He was the beloved son of Grant U. Taylor and Mary Ellen (Wickline) Taylor of Allen Junction, WV, where one of the bridges is dedicated to his memory. Grover Robert Taylor attended Mullens High School, Mullens, WV, but earned his GED in military service. He deployed from Fort Jackson, SC, where his wife and step-children were residing.

He was a United States Army Staff Sergeant who served with Alpha Company, First Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was killed in action from multiple fragmentation wounds while serving in South Vietnam on April 20, 1966.

Funeral service was conducted by David Pollock at the Sam Fogleson Chapel, Mullens, WV at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, April 26, 1966. Burial on Wednesday, April 27, 1966, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Sam Fogleson, Nease and Neely Funeral Home of Mullens, WV, served the family.

His obituary was published in the Raleigh Register, Beckley, WV, Monday, April 25, 1966 under the name, Staff Sgt. Grover Taylor. Announcement of his death in Viet Nam was published with an Associated Press Report in the Charleston Gazette and the Charleston City Page, Charleston, WV, Monday, April 25, 1966, in article about Staff Sgt. Grover Robert Taylor of Allen Junction, WV, "Two More State Men Die in Viet."
