A Sonnet about my furry love

BOOTS

Furry whiskers tickle
as they rub against my nose
Mommy, aren't you up yet?
as she paws me with her toes

Her persistent meows will stir me
and rouse me from my sleep
When she's completely satisfied
down from our bed she'll leap

She'll only let me sleep there
if I'll share the space
But make no mistake about it
she's the owner of this place

It's time for food and water
to me she will explain
Then she'll look at me as if to say
not this crap again

She likes her catnip toys
They put her in a tizzy
Round and round she turns
until she makes me dizzy

She likes to watch the birds
flying to and fro
I like to watch the sunlight gleaming
on her coat of calico

Upon her furry face
lay the colors three
Black and brown surround her eyes
white completes the tapestry

When I'm feeling down and out
or in my bed so sick
that's when she shows her love the most
as by my side she'll stick

I made a promise long ago
to keep her safe from harm
and she has given back
all her feline charm

A subtle purr, a gentle nudge
keeps me from being bored
She heals my spirit and
her love is my reward

I don't deserve this graceful being
who's touched my soul so deep
A truer love I've never known
and it's all mine to keep

Dedicated to my itty bitty Boo-Boo kitty
I love you Boots!

My furry friend has passed away
and into pieces my heart has broken
she whispered her goodbyes to me
in meows so softly spoken

She said, "Don't worry Mommy,
I know you did your best
I don't want to leave you
but my time has come to rest"

"I'll play in fragrant meadows,
chasing butterflies and all
that's where I'll be waiting
to hear my Mommies' call"

Her furry face is here no more
and now I have to wait
until we can meet again
in front of Heaven's Gate

Boots passed away August 14, 2004
She will always be remembered
Always be loved, always be missed
