Pvt. Francis A. McCormick.
A telegram received last night from the war department by Mrs. Matilda McCormick of 309 Elm street, Lakemont,brought the word that her son Pvt. Francis A. McCormick, aged 19, was killed in action in Germany on Arpil 8. the message gave no details but a letter of confirmation will follow.
The young Lakemont soldier entered the service Sept. 4, 1944, and was sent to Camp Fannin, Tex., for training, then overseas in January of this year, landing in England,
thence going to Belgium, Holland and into Germany where he
lost his life. He was a member of the 290th infantry.
He attended the Hollidaysburg High School and had been employed by the Shaffer Stores company and was employed at the Lingenfelter garage just prior to entering the service.
Word of the death of her son came to the mother on her birthday.

A brother, Pfc. George Price, aged 25, is in the service, having entered on May 5, 1942, and trained at Ft. Knox, Ky., and several other southern camps. He was then sent
to Indiantown Gap where he was injured in a motorcycle mishap and hospitalized for four and one-half months.
He was sent overseas in April, 1944, and is now with the 313th infantry in Germany. He is married to the former Mary Bender of Patton and they have one daughter Shirley Ann, aged 2 years. They reside at Patton.
