In 1914 he broke in briefly with the Philadelphia Phillies, who sent him to the minors in 1915 and then sold his contract to Pittsburgh. He pitched for the Pirates from 1916 through 1918. The Pirates traded Jacobs back to the Phillies in 1918. In 1919 the Phillies sold his contract to the St. Louis Cardinals. He pitched with the Cardinals through 1920, but was sent to the minor leagues in 1921. He returned to the majors in 1924 and 1925 with the Chicago Cubs. After another year in the minors, he finished his major league career with the Chicago White Sox in 1927. During his up and down career in the majors, he played in 250 games. He was a starting pitcher in 133 games, posting a record of 50 wins and 81 losses. His earned run average was 3.55 with 336 strikeouts.
