Folk Singer. At the start of the 1960s folk revival, he was the founder of the "Dubliners", a popular and influential Irish traditional music group. Known for his distinctive vocals, he sang "Seven Drunken Nights" the group's first top 10 hit in 1967. On St. Patrick's Day 1968, they launched their first tour with an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, followed by more recordings and appearances at the Royal Albert Hall. In 1974, Drew pursued a solo career with works to include "Ronnie Drew" (1975), "Guaranteed" (1978), "Dirty Rotten Shame" (1995), "An Evening With Ronnie Drew" (2004) and "A New World" (2006). He also collaborated with artists such as Antonio Breschi, Rory Gallagher, Jah Wobble, Bono, Elvis Costello and Shane McGowan. In February 2008, to honor his contributions to Irish music, the sang "The Ballad of Ronnie Drew" was released by the group U2 and other famous Irish musicians.
