Allen Heck, of Longview, dove into the river near Kelso to save a struggling child about 3 p.m. Friday. He was last seen handing the child off to a group of people near the shore, witnesses said. Heck didn't know the girl, who wandered away from her family and into the water. Heck was able to hold her above the water until someone could grab her.
