During the Civil War he served in 6th Connecticut Inf. Co. I. After the Civil War he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an Engineer aboard the Monongahela. He died on the ship on the way back from the West Indies. He had yellow fever. He was 22 years 9 months old.
