Death Calls at Three Sonora Households
Mrs Catherine Melaney, Mrs Meta Coyle and James Gerlach Answer the Final Call
Sonora October 26 - Mrs Catherine McElaney, one of the pioneer women of the state, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Kittie Nolan, on South Stewart street, Thursday morning at 7 o'clock. For the past five years she has been in failing health and while possessing a good memories of all her old-time friends yet was as a little child in that period, living over her young days and looking upon her daughter as her mother. Still, she was unusually active and took to her bed only one week ago. She suffered nopain but gradually weakened and went gently to her last sleep. Since the death of her husband she had been tenderly loved and cared for by her daughter, her only relative excepting her grand children, Mrs Richard Miller and John Nolan of Jamestown and Mrs John Rocca of Sonora and several great grandchildren. The funeral was held Saturday forenoon, mass being said by Rev Father Gilmartin of St Patrick's church and internment being made in the Catholic cemetery at Mt View.
