Anne L. Gibson
Anne L. Gibson died Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the Wilson Medical Center – Reece Campus. She was 88.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at the First Christian Church under the direction of Penwell-Gable Loran Fawcett Chapel. Pastor Jim Bell will officiate. Interment will be in Neodesha Cemetery.

Friends may call to register on Tuesday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family may be contacted at the home.

The daughter of Augustus D. and Sarah Ellen (Taylor) Orr, she was born June 26, 1921, at Ash Flat, Arkansas. She graduated from Ash Flat High School in 1939 where she was a star basketball player. She later played college basketball for Arkansas College and was offered an opportunity to tour with the American Redheads womens' basketball team.

On February 1, 1941, she was united in marriage to Claude E. Gibson Jr. in Arkansas. The couple moved to Neodesha in 1949. He preceded her in death in 2001.

She was longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), the Fortnightly Club, the First Christian Church, and the CWF and was the first woman to serve on the Neodesha Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She also served on the Board of Directors of the W.A. Rankin Memorial Library. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi and was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Anne was the owner of Gibson Insurance Agency for 25 years, retiring in 1981.

Upon retiring, she volunteered for many local endeavors including the Neodesha Senior Center, the Wilson County Hospital and the local nursing home. She and her husband, Claude, also delivered Meals-On-Wheels.

She enjoyed hobbies such as bridge and genealogy, played golf avidly and loved watching college sports on television.

Survivors include one daughter, E. Sarah Gibson of Kansas City, KS; one son, Robert E. Gibson of Missoula, MT; three brothers, Edward Orr of Pendleton, OR, and Bob and Dan Orr of Ash Flat, AR; two grandchildren, Rob Gibson of Missoula, MT, and Ashley Tintinger and her husband Samuel of Stevensville, MT; three great-grandchildren, Tailer, Bailey and Cayden Tintinger, all of Stevensville, MT.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas or the First Christian Church and may be left at the funeral home.
