Mrs. Imogene Nichols Highfield Marbut, age 87, of Rome, passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at her residence.

Mrs. Marbut was born in Floyd County on April 26, 1928, daughter of the late Joe Roy Nichols and the late Leona Branton Nichols. She was also preceded in death by her late husband, Johnny Roscoe Marbut, by her first husband and father of her children, Robert Paul Highfield, by a daughter, Paulette Gowan, by two sisters, Martha Mormon and Mildred Shelley, and by a brother, Carl “Cop” Nichols. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Marbut was employed with Pet Bakery here in Rome for several years. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean Clark, Rome; three sons, Bradley Highfield, Hiwassee, Jacky Highfield, and his wife, Leisa, Grovetown, and Joe Highfield, and his wife, Brenda, Lindale; a sister, Mary Ann Jackson, Cave Spring; 16 grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Shane Dover officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m. At other hours, they may be contacted at their respective residences.

Pallbearers will include her sons, Bradley, Jacky, and Joe Highfield, her grandsons, Joey Highfield and Richard Clark, and her grandsons-in-law, John Bagley and Tim Chambers.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangements.
