Mr. Benjamin D. Highfield

Mr. Benjamin Donald Highfield of 5215 Roland Hayes, Parkway, Curryville died Friday morning, Aug. 13, 1993, due to lung cancer.

He was born in Floyd County on April 22, 1934, son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Nancy Anna Coheley Highfield. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church and was employed as a truck driver with Poole Truck Lines, where he was a member of the Truck Drivers Hall of Fame, having accumulated more than 2 million accident-free miles. He was preceded in death by a son, Rufus Eugene(Butch)Highfield, on Jan 10, 1987.

Survivors include his wife,Barbara Grace Highfield of Calhoun, to whom he was married May 7,1951; a daughter Mrs. Nancy Skidmore of Lafayette; three sons, Donald Highfield, Jr., Joseph P. Highfield, and S. Thomas Highfield, all of Calhoun; two brothers, James Highfield of Riverside, Ala., and Frank Highfield of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Lily Edwards of Baton Rouge, LA.; and eight grandchildren.

The Funeral was Sunday, Aug. 15, at the chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home, with the Rev.David Blasengame officiating. Interment was in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers were Neil McNeice,Jr.,Fred Sheasby, Lee Busby, Grover Williams, Buddy Couch and James Thomas. An honorary escort was composed of employees of Poole Truck Lines. Daniel's Funeral Home of Rome was in charge of the arrangements.
