Karen Kay Strain age 63 of Galveston entered eternal rest Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at John Sealy
Hospital in Galveston. Funeral Mass is 10:00am Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father John
Paul Flajole, OFM celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes
Brothers Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home with a rosary to be
held at 6:30pm.
Karen was born December 31, 1946 in Galveston, Texas to James W. Koch and Geraldine Gaidry Koch. She was
a 1965 graduate of Ball High School and was employed at the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in Galveston with over 25
years of service. She enjoyed time spent with family; close friends and time at her home in Galveston. Karen was a
faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by parents, survivors include daughter, Shelley Strain-Salisbury and husband Blinn
Salisbury, III of Westminster, Maryland; son, Brook J. Strain and Marla Santini of Kemah; sister, Diane Aymes of
Galveston; grandchildren, Savana Cardwell-Strain of Texas City, Danielle Gonzales and David Gonzales both of
Westminster, Maryland; former son in law, Daniel Gonzales of Galveston; nieces and nephew, Melissa Aymes and
Rodney Garza, Meagan Garza and Aaron Garza; numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Daniel Gonzales, David Gonzales, Aaron Garza, Brook Strain and Loyd Sorrow, Jr. Honorary
pallbearer is Rodney Garza. The family would like to thank the staff of MICU and the Emergency room for their special
attention given to mother during her illness.
