About 3 P.M. on Sunday afternoon, February 9, 1896, the three-masted schooner Florida of St. John's, New Brunswick, carrying coal, ran aground in a blizzard onto Salisbury Beach, Massachusetts. Six of its crew were lost, including the chief officer: A. Mcullouch, Paul A. Moses, W.A. Williams, John S. Nelson, William Wills and Gustaf Smith.
