Commander of the ship Brutus, owned by the Crowninshield firm. It sailed from Salem on February 21, 1802, and was wrecked on the shores of Cape Cod, along with two other Salem-based ships, Ulysses and Volusia, during a nor'easter the evening of the following day. Captain Browne and many of his crew made it to shore, but died of exposure.
