Bessie James Williams , 101, died Friday, November 16, 2001 in Wesley Care Center. Mrs. Williams , a native of Charlotte, was a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Joseph H. James and Letita Andrews James of Charlotte, and the wife of Joseph Oscar Williams , who died in 1974. She was a member of Belmont Park United Methodist Church from birth, where she taught kindergarten for 47 years, until she became a charter member of University City United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class, the Good Times Club and the REA Express Luncheon Club.

Funeral services for Mrs. Williams will be held at University City United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 19, 2001 with the Reverend Paul Craig officiating, assisted by the Reverend Dale Groh. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Crook and her husband Reid of Charlotte and Irene Williams of Miami, FL; two grandchildren, Dianne Purifoy of Miami, FL, and James Reid Crook, Jr. of Mooresville, NC, two great grandchildren Traci and Amy Purifoy of Miami, FL, two sisters, Sarah Ledwell of Charlotte and Wilma Bridges of Chattanooga, TN. Memorials may be made to University City United Methodist Church, 6100 W. Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28269.
