He was born in Globe, and died at Heritage Health Care Center in Globe. He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and Holy Angels Catholic Church. He retired from Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company after 42 years.

He was survived by his wife, Mercedes S. Alvarado of Globe; one son, Joseph M. (Paulette) of Flagstaff; four daughters, Rebecca Mesa (Antonio) of Globe, Dolores Tate (Dennis) of Taylor, Mary Anne Alvarado (Walt) of Allen, Tex., and Adela Valenzuela (Danny) of Superior; one brother, Memo Alvarado; three sisters, Janie Rodriguez, Trini Vasquez and Hela Canizales; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
