He was deployed with the Special Forces Support Group of the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

He was killed when his Jackal armoured vehicle was hit by an explosion followed by a small-arms fire attack while on patrol north of Lashkar Gah, Helmand province. Cpl Kevin Mulligan and LCpl Dale Thomas Hopkins were also killed and a fourth soldier was hospitalised in critical condition.

Aged 21, from Croesyceiliog, Wales. He was described as a talented sportsman and highly professional soldier always ready for the next challenge. His family said "he was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, and boyfriend. He was the life and soul of any party".

A repatriation ceremony was held at RAF Lyneham on August 13, 2009. Hundreds of mourners attended LCpl Adams' funeral on August 28, 2009 at Gwent Crematorium, near Cwmbran, South Wales.
