Longtime Tuolumne County resident Mary Frances Petrisevac died Jan. 1 at a Sonora hospital. She was 91.
She was born in Grayville, Ill., and lived in Columbia from 1960-78 and in Sonora since 1995.
She worked as a furniture buyer for 12 years for Sears and Roebuck in Oakland. She also drove an ice truck in Florida, worked at Sierra Laundry in Sonora and was a buyer for H.C. Capwell in Oakland.
Her family said she loved drawing, was an artist all her life and won many awards for her art. At one time she worked with Al Capp, a well-known cartoonist, who gave her art lessons. She also was a commercial artist and worked for Foster and Kaiser Billboards in Los Angeles. She worked as a costume designer in the film industries in Los Angeles for six years.
She enjoyed archery, bowling and making quilts, which she would donate to auctions to raise money for senior projects or to help others in need.
