Orlando was born to Myrtle G. and Phoebe M. Brace, early settlers of Elmira Township; he was the third child of a family of thirteen. He married Lucy A. Hudson Feb. 13,1861. Sept. 10,1862 he answered his country's call enlisting in Co. A 124th Ill. Vol. For three years he followed the flag through the Southland. In he battle of Spanish Fort, Alabama he was severely wounded, the enemy's bullet piercing his shoulder and causing an injury which he carried-oftimes with great suffering during the remainder of his life, and rendering one arm practically useless. From 1873-1886 he served as county Treasurer, 1891-1900 as Superintendent of the Co. Infirmary, and for the last seven years as Deputy County Clerk. He also was repeatedly elected alderman for the City Council. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, The Old Settler's Association, the Order of Odd Fellows and GAR
