GEORGE CHRISTY
George M. Christy, 94, of Neodesha, died Wednesday, March 16, at 5:21pm at the Golden Keys Nursing Home where he had made his home over the last three years.
Mr. Christy was born August 14, 1888, in Altamont, Kansas, the son of George F. and Flora Iona [Monroe] Christy. On December 26, 1909, at Polo, Missouri he was married to Nora Stephens. She preceded him in death in 1972.
He had been a resident of Neodesha since 1906, a member of the United Methodist Church, a Neodesha City Commissioner for 15 years, a member of the United Transportation Union for 75 years, Harmony Lodge #94 AF&AM, Commandary # 27 of Fredonia, Council #15 of Independence, Order of Eastern Star, and the White Shrine. He retired in 1953 as a conductor for the Frisco Railroad after 49 years of service.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lenora Rudd and Mrs. Dale [Margaret Ann] Puckett, both of Neodesha; three sisters, Mrs. Mina Brown, Miss Julia Christy, both of Altamont, and Mrs. Stella Todd of Sedan, Kansas; two grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife, were his parents; two sisters, Faye and Velma; three brothers, Howard, Judd, and Criss; and a grandson, Vernon George Rudd.
Funeral services for Mr. Christy will be held Saturday, March 19, at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home at 2pm with the Rev. LeRoy Rayson officiating. Burial will be at the Neodesha Cemetery.
A memorial in Mr. Christy's memory has been established with the Wilson County Hospital.
