Altoona Tribune, 20 Mar 1916 - Andrew N. BAKER, one of Roaring Spring's oldest and most prominent citizens, died at his late home on East Main street, at 9:15 Saturday morning after a lingering illness due to heart disease and other complications. He was a son of John and Margaret BAKER and was born in Woodbury, Bedford county, August 30, 1841. After his father's death (when he was about 9 years old), he was adopted by George SMITH, of Henrietta with whom he lived until his marriage, teaching the township school in the meantime. Mr. BAKER was united in marriage with Mary A. SMOUSE, of Woodbury, on April 29, 1863, and they together established their new home near Henrietta, where he followed the agricultural business, until they moved to Roaring Spring thirteen years ago. After locating in that town, he conducted a profitable grocery business life. He is widely known throughout Morrisons Cove as well as for his earnest and persistent work in the cause of right. Until the time of his death, he was a faithful member of the local Christ Reformed church, having been one of its charter members. Mr. BAKER's wife preceded him to the eternal kingdom, over two years ago, but he is survived by his entire family of children, viz: George E. and Frank I., of Cleveland, O.; William E., of Waterside; John I., of Erie; Harry N, Mrs. S. S. KAUFFMAN and Miss Ellen of Roaring Spring; and Mrs. A. H. STONER, of Williamsburg. He is also survived by one brother, S. M. BAKER, of Los Angeles. His daughters, Miss Ellen and Mrs. S. S. KAUFFMAN, were willing and untiring servants at his bedside during the last months of his illness. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. J. A. STONE in the Christ Reformed Church at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning. Interment in Greenlawn cemetery.
