Engineman Has Long Service
James D. Boland of 898 Twenty-ninth street, a veteran engineman on the Cresson branch of the Pittsburg division, Pennsylvania railroad, recently received the 50-year service button of the Pennsylvania railroad. A. L. Long, road foreman of engines, made the presentation. Commenting on Mr. Boland's long service with the railroad, Mr. Long said that "above all," he was a faithful, good, honest workman and was always on the job." Mr. Boland, a native of Cresson, was born Oct. 21, 1881. He began working for the Pennsylvania railroad May 13, 1898, in the MW department. Sometime after, he was transferred to the train service, becoming a fireman Jan. 18, 1901. On Oct. 24, 1905, shortly after his 24th birthday, he was promoted to engineman.
